Perry returns!

Perry McCarthy, the original ‘Stig’ from Top Gear is set to make his motorsport comeback in the ultra exciting TitansRX European Rally Cross Championship 15 years after hanging up his helmet due to injury.

The ex Formula 1 and Le Mans driver regular will join the series from his home event at Lydden Hill, Kent, 27 July, and will compete in every single round for the remainder of the season including Portugal, Austria, Hungary and Germany.

“At 58 years old, I’m so proud and delighted to be coming back to motor racing at this level” said McCarthy. “It’s a big challenge ahead and I’ve never raced Rally Cross, but it’s given me something to get my teeth into and thankfully I was fast in testing.”

“Since I retired I’ve been giving corporate speeches and personal appearances around the world but now my racing driver instincts have returned in a big way” he said. ‘’I may not be as young as I used to be but I’ve been training for a while now and I am fit, focused and hungry’’ “The nature of the series is all about entertainment, it’s all broadcast by Eurosport and we’re providing something that says ‘look, this is fantastic stuff’, it’s great flat-out action with fantastic drivers involved … this whole thing really has got me written all over it and I am grateful to Max.”

TitansRX founder and CEO Max Pucher was thrilled to get McCarthy onboard and secure him for the full season, having been unsure if the veteran would be up for a motorsport comeback at all.

“It is great to see the spirit and enthusiasm that Top Gear’s original Stig Perry McCarthy – as someone who has seen it all – is bringing to TitansRX,” Pucher said. I’m glad to have him on the team.”

Although he’s climbed the single-seater ladder and raced in sports cars and touring cars all over the world, McCarthy’s TitansRX debut will mark the first time he has ever competed in a rallycross event.

“I’ve not driven or raced rallycross before – I mean, I have been on the grass a few times, but that that wasn’t deliberate,” he joked. “

“A new chapter in my life has opened up and I’ve never been one to ignore a great opportunity. I’m a lucky fella to have enjoyed my life so much and now the adventure continues. I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got”
